Technology FAQ

1.Do we have guidelines regarding my use of school technology and why should I care?
a.Yes, they are explained in our Responsible Use Policy (RUP)
b.And it is mandatory that you read the RUP and sign an acceptance form before you may use any school technology or participate in the BYOD program.
2.Can I use my phone, iPod, tablet, or laptop in school?
a.Yes, following the BYOD guidelines explained in the RUP, you may use your own devices at various times.
b. Please view the BYOD Requirements as to which devices should be used for school work.
3.BYOD means I can use my phone or device whenever I wish?
a.No, there are specific guidelines as to where and when you may use it (see the RUP).
b.It is also at the teacher/staff member’s discretion - if they allow it or not.
4.Do I have to use the computers at school if I have my own?
a.That is up to you and your teacher and may differ from teacher to teacher or lesson to lesson.
b.Using the school computer ‘windows login’ is one of two ways to change your Microsoft account (local network /Office 365 accounts) password. The other way is to talk to one of the technology staff to have it changed.
c. You should have access to your own computer both at home and in school to effectively perform your homework.
5.Do I have to use Office 365 and why?
a.Yes, as it is your official school email account and is used by teachers and staff to communicate, collaborate, share, and inform you of school related information.
b.It is also one of two accounts (Office 365 OneDrive and the other is MySchool WebDisk) where you can store and retrieve your digital files to use in school.
6.How can I learn how to use 365?
a.There are tutorial videos and more at Office 365 Tutorials
7.I have forgotten my password, what should I do?
a.If it is your MySchool password; then you should either fill out a form in the main office; see the mySchool website for options; or speak to a technology staff member.
b.If it is your Office 365, then you need to change your "windows login" or computer account using a school computer or see a technology staff member to reset your Microsoft (windows/365) account password. You CANNOT change it on the 365 website.
8. Office 365 says I have to change my password, how do I do that?
a.That is the same as if your windows login account at school requested the same. You will need to reset it on a school windows computer or with one of the technology staff members. It then takes 10-60 minutes to synchronize with Office 365 in the cloud.
b.It cannot be done on-line or requested through the website.
9.I cannot remember my password, why can’t I use my friend’s?
a.As explained in the RUP this is not only inappropriate, but may be construed as illegal and or cheating and therefore has serious consequences.
10.What are the password requirements and why are they so complicated?
a.See information regarding passwords and accounts for the requirements and why.
11.Is it true that the school can read or monitor my 365 email account?
a.Explained in the RUP, yes if there is suspicion that there has been inappropriate activity or behavior.
b.As explained elsewhere, regularly use your 365 account for school related email and work. Use your personal account (other email) for personal reasons.
